Ahh... am I missing something? What is sugru?

camera on a kite

Paul is a film maker and he used sugru to help him take arial footage with a kite:
“I fixed some camera attachments i have been using for kite filming, without Sugru the nuts and screws fall out and i spend ages looking for them in the grass.
We’re using the GOPRO HD Hero camera, we have been using it to film from bike handle bars to capture bike journeys for a film we’re making. We’re also using it to get arial shots of cyclists, hence the kite filming, its way to expensive to hire a helicopter so I’ve been experimenting with hinging a little camera from a kite line to capture whats below. You’re at the mercy of the wind and its direction but it a lot of fun as well.”
Here’s some of Paul’s kite filming footage !

Hi Jane,

1) the Youtube video on Sugru after curing…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmlZycwiG6Y
…is not working for me, even though other Youtube stuff does work. Any chance you could re-post that one and perhaps a few others that show how strong/rigid Surgru is after curing and also how grippy it is when both dry and when wet?

2) are there any plans to make a stronger, more rigid (but still not brittle) version?

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt
Thanks for posting.
I’m not sure why the video isn’t working, we didn’t make it actually, it’s made by a sugru user called cwjoneill on youtube… showing how he repaired his toy train track.

It’s a good idea to show a video of how sugru is after it’s cured.
We’ll come up with something, thanks for the suggestion!
No we haven’t got plans to make a harder sugru, out of interest why would you like that?

Hi,

Check out grassrootsmapping.org for people using balloons (in addition to kites) for making maps – balloons might be an option to kites, they’d let you capture footage under conditions where kites won’t fly.

Cheers

We have a few of those gopro heros at my place of work for checkout and I’ve been incredibly nervous about bits and pieces not coming back home with the camera due to their inherently loose nature. This is a fantastic idea! Now, I can’t wait for my Sugru to show up!
