Fix a polypropylene seat on a Huffy GreenMachine go-kart

The seat was broken and a small section of the jigsaw puzzle was missing. I used insulation tape on the inside of the seat to keep it together while I applied Sugru to the back. At this point I noticed fractures travelling outwards from the break had to be sugru'ed (is that a word? It is now!) too. Once the Sugru on the back had cured I removed the tape and began on the inside. I cut a piece of plastic from an old bucket to replace the missing section. I figured this would add rigidity. I was lucky to find a piece of roughly the same thickness and strength. At the insistence of the young owner of the kart I dabbed on some black paint.
Around about then you told me on Twitter that the bonding with polypropylene may not be great. And I panicked. While it was solid overall the two seams on the leading edge flexed a bit too much for my liking. I heated the tip of an awl over a candle and melted four holes into the seat. Two 3mm cable ties stitched the seams tightly together. I then re-affixed the seat.

One happy young man peddled off into the sunset.
