iPad + 2002 iMac Hack

Firstly the monitor of the iMac was unscrewed (not an easy process). Initially we had hoped we could keep the monitor's frame but that was wishful thinking). Then the base of the iMac was removed and the HD extracted.

The lack of a smooth mounting point at the top of the 'arm' meant we had to be creative here. Eventually we found a reasonably still large rubber washer at the hardware store that was about the right size which we drilled some holes in so we could attach it to the arm using a collection of the screws gathered from the iMac teardown.

Two packs of Sugru were used to bond the iPad to the washer-arm-iMac. Yes, it's basically a fancy iPad stand but it's quite convincing sitting at reception. Maybe now we can get a new iPad for the office as this one is no longer portable!

Total cost: $1 for the washer and 2 packs of Sugru. Cost of buying an iPad2 stand: $LotsMore.
