Make a white cane easy to hang

I work as O&M Specialist with visually impaired and blind kids. So encouraging pupils move around independently and using their white canes are part of my job.

I’ve noticed some kids don’t use their cane but “hang on to guides because they cannot find their white canes in coat racks (canes fall down, get lost on the floor..) Canes can be too long to store them in coatracks or there’s no hook for them.

When shopping you’d love to hold and study products but because of the white cane it’s bit tricky. Kids think the cane is more like a hindrance than an aid.

I bought sugru and “glued” a tiny but strong neodymium magnet on the handle of the white cane. Now you can stick the cane in any ferrous surface. Not only at home / coat racks but in buses, at crockery store, at cashier. Pupils have attached small metal plates in important non-magnetic places so they can keep their white cane always get-at-able.
