Mount A Phone Holder To Your Car Dashboard

Almost 2 years ago, I bought a universal phone mount so I could more easily see my phone in GPS mode when driving. It wouldn't stay in place, as the sticky suction cup on the bottom just couldn't hold to the uneven dash, so it's been rattling around in my car ever since. When I ran across that first article on Sugru, this is the first application I thought of. When the postman delivered my Sugru late Saturday afternoon, I was out cleaning the dash before the mail truck was out of sight. In less than 15 minutes, it was done. The first pic shows the suction cup base of the phone mount, with the Sugru around the edge. I first rolled a full piece of Sugru to make a string just long enough to go around the edge of the base, then stuck it to the suction cup. Then I pinched it to make a triangular cross section, as recommended in the Sugru instructions online. Then I pushed it down on the dash, making sure not to block access to the air vents behind it. It's been there for 3 days now, and I've used it several times to test it. It is holding very well, even in the hot weather (~100 degrees) in Denver this week. So my first try with Sugru is a big success, solving a problem I've had for almost 2 years!
