Rebuild an eyecup on a camera

I have been deprived of the eyecup on my camera for some time and am not motivated enough to try and find a replacement. Though its not essential to the operation of my camera, it is kind of uncomfortable to use without an eyecup. So when I got my sugru in the mail, I was trying to find awesome uses for it when I spotted my camera. I was unsure if I would be able to make it removable and if the material would be firm enough to hold onto the small grooves. Low and behold with the use of some dish soap and the awesome properties of sugru I have an eyepiece again! It worked and holds on very well. Its even removable just like the original. Now if I wish I can modify it for a better fit around my eye if I feel ambitious enough in the future!

I started by smearing a bit of dish soap around the area to prevent it from bonding. Then with the yellow sugru, I surrounded the grooves (except for the bottom edge so that it would be removable). This was the tester to see if it would work. I didn't do much shaping at this point. Once that was cured completely and I realized it would work, I added the black to make it fit around my eye a little better. I think this is probably even better than the one my camera came with! Yay!
