Repair a birdhouse

This is a birdhouse gourd I purchased from a farm stand last summer. I let it dry out in my basement for several months. After drying, there were some cracks in the top half of the gourd that would allow water to enter, which could lead to a wet, cold nest and dead chicks. I cleaned the gourd and used some light sandpaper to remove any flaky material from around the cracks. Then I used a pack of sugru to seal the cracks and make the structure more waterproof. Finally, I cut a rough hole in the side of the gourd about 1.25 inches in diameter, just the right size for a Carolina Wren. These birds will accept a hanging birdhouse and aren't too put off by people, so I hung the house from the underside of my deck. I'm hoping for some tenants this spring!
