How to create a pretty spool storage

Being a bit of a craft junkie, storage in my tiny room is at a premium! So when trying to figure out a way to store my spools of thread without resorting to nails and wood - my pack of Sugru came to the rescue!

Kit

  • Giant paperclips (the ones I used are about 4.5cm/2in long)
  • Sugru (1x5g pack will make 2 hooks)
  • Embellishment (optional!)

Step 1

Different coloured paper clips

Get your paperclips....

Step 2

Papaer clip straightened out

... and straighten out one end, but at a slight upward angle.

Step 3

Sugru applied to straightened paper clip

Split your 5g pack of Sugru in half (use one half per paperclip). Put a tiny piece at each end of the paperclip to cover the ugly metal ends, and with the remainder, wrap around the rounded portion of the paperclip from where it will be hung on the wall.

Step 4

Paper clips hung on wall

Then just stick it to the wall and allow it to cure. As I generally like to 'pretty things up', I stuck some perspex flowers and butterflies to the top of the hook at this stage, but you can of course leave it as is.

The great thing about this fix is that it allows both the spool of thread and any wound bobbins to be stored together.

So my bare bit of wall is now useful! :)
