One moment of divided attention and the phone's on the floor. Screen cracked! What can you do with a cracked phone screen? Ignoring it can be dangerous and ugly, replacing the screen is costly, not even mentioning the costs of getting new phone altogether!
But we have an easy and cheap solution for you: With a tiny amount of sugru you can patch up those cracks around the screen and make sure the glass stays in place! Hooray!
This guide shows you how you can repair a cracked phone screen yourself - check it out, get some sugru and start fixing!
- 1 minipack of sugru (black blends in well)
- tissue paper
Argh! It makes your eyeballs scream doesn't it?
Let's get to it!
First up, wipe and clean your screen with a tissue paper. Be careful not to pick up any loose glass when you're rubbing!
sugru bonds so much better when everything is clean and dust free!
Turn on your phone screen so you can see the boundaries of the screen. You don't want to put sugru over your screen so you can't see anything!
Using masking tape, mask off the screen area.
Next up, cut open a minipack of sugru and tear off a tiny amount. (even the amount shown in the picture may be too big for your cracked screen)
A top tip is to start small and then gradually add more if you need to.
To use the rest of your sugru, have some more fixes and hacks lined up or get some inspiration on the sugru gallery.
Delicately place the sugru into the cracks and smear it gently over the surface of the glass helping the glass bond together.
This takes a bit of time. There is no need to rush, you have about half an hour to work with sugru after opening the pack!
When you are happy that everything is stuck down and bonded together, gently glide your finger over the surface of the sugru to make it ultra smooth and to get rid of any fingerprints.
When you're happy with your sugru finish, leave your phone to cure overnight (the sugru is so thin it won't need the full 24 hour curing time!).
The next morning, peel off the masking tape and your phone is almost as good as new! Woohoo!
