How to modify an iPhone charger cable
This mod is to make it easier to charge your phone while using it. It should work with any cable and probably any phone if planned out correctly.
Kit
- Phone
- Phone Cable
- Sugru
- Hot Glue Gun
Step 1
The first 2 steps are removing the existing casing for the head of the charge cable, and to hot glue it in the direction that you want it to be.
Step 2
The next step is to cut out a piece of scrap plastic to fit around the shaft of the plug.
Step 3
Next take the custom piece and fit it into place, plug the phone into the cord and fit the piece snug against the bottom of the phone. Then use a few dabs of hot glue to put it in place. This will make a nice fitting but ugly and and short lived cable if you stopped here, because the most important step is next.
Step 4
Add Sugru, sculpt it as you see fit, but make sure that the stress points have enough coverage to hold up over time.
My cable started to look like a lemon, so with my girlfriend's suggestion I added little dimples to it.
