Two days before an extended European trip, we were packing late at night and remembered that one of our suitcases had suffered a tear on our last trip:

We had no good replacement for it, and were struggling to figure out what else we could use.  We were about to declare it trash when we remembered.... SUGRU!  We had bought some the week before because it looked so cool, but hadn't found a use for it yet.

At 11pm we applied two packets of Sugru to the tear, some on the inside, some on the outside, and we used the wet-finger smoothing technique to give it a smooth finish.

When it was done, we put some boots in the suitcase to keep it propped open, and let the 'blob' sit for 24 hours.

... et Voila!  It survived being checked as airline baggage and works as well as it ever did.

THANKS, Sugru!

Hi mgorbet - this is great how you've showed the repair being done step by step, and also the tip of putting boots inside to keep it bulked out is great. Hope lots more people are inspired now to repair their cases too! If you did it in a colour, it could help you spot it on the baggage carousel at the airport too!
