Connect up mismatched washing machine pipes

I moved house in Italy last month – everything went well until it came to fitting the washing machine! Fitting the hose for the incoming water was simple, but somehow where the waste hose needed to fit the corresponding (Italian) pipe was half the diameter needed.  A quick repair with masking tape proved useless. Neither the local plumber nor the local hardware shop were able to suggest a fitting to adapt the two sizes. Eureka! sugru came to the rescue. It's now three weeks since I used sugru to join the two hoses together, and not a leak in sight.  For me, this is a perfect example as to why I should always have a pack of sugru to hand.
