My Canon XHA1 video camera had lost it's microphone. It's a well known design fault that the microphone becomes looser as time goes on and becomes floppy and generally gets in the way. I don't use the onboard microphone anyway (have one on a boom), so I ripped it off. After a while I started thinking that it wasn't good to have a gaping hole in the camera body, so I made a protective cap with sugru. I made it smooth by rubbing it lightly with my finger.
