How to repair a leaking watering can

Metal watering cans are beautiful things to own, but they are susceptible to rusting and holes can start appearing. It's annoying when your watering can pours out of more than one hole so we're going to show you how Sugru Mouldable Glue can save you from buying a new one.

Sugru is great for fixing leaking watering cans because it bonds well to metal and is waterproof!

  • 1 single-use pack of Sugru

Step 1

Small ball of Sugru on finger

Cut open your pack of Sugru. Knead the Sugru in your fingers before getting started. For this project it is best to work with small pea sized amounts of Sugru. It is far easier to work with Sugru in small amounts than a large piece.

We have done a little bit of colour mixing here to get this lovely pastel yellow. Why not try some colour mixing yourself? Check out our colour mixing page to get started.

Step 2

Sugru being rubbed around hole in watering can

Spread the Sugru, piece by piece, around the hole. Ensure that it is sufficiently worked into the metal.

Step 3

Sausage of Sugru being applied over hole in watering can

Once you have covered around the hole make a flat sausage of Sugru to cover the hole.

Step 4

Sugru being spread over the hole

Place the flat sausage over the hole and spread the edges into the Sugru that you have already applied.

Step 5

Soapy water used to smooh Sugru over

To get a smooth finish, place one hand inside the watering can and gently press the Sugru from the inside whilst softly rubbing the outside with the other hand. Use a small amount of soapy water to get a super smooth finish.

Step 6

Edges of Sugru tidied up with finger

Tidy up the edges with the back of a fingernail.

Step 7

Fixed watering can with Sugru sealing hole

Leave to set for 12-24 hours. Your watering can is now no longer leaking and as good as new!
