Improve the waterproofing on your camera case

I wanted to ”rebuild” my Action Cam's waterproof case. The original case was waterproof (up to 5m) but was fitted with a lens not suitable for underwater filming. So I bought a cheap flat-lens, waterproofed the lens, then fitted it to the case. I also filled the microphone holes in the case. With this mod I have extended the maximum depth from 5m to at least 15m (tested!). All done with Sugru!

(Camera = Sony Action Cam Mini HDR-AZ1, Case = Sony SPK-AZ1)

1. Old lens removed.

2. New lens waterproofed on both sides with Sugru.

3. Lens and case sanded down to remove powder coating and gloss from the plastic (just in case!)

4. Placed Sugru in the gap to glue and seal. Sanded above the Sony logo preparing to fill the microphone holes to prevent water to come in under deeper dives.

5. Filled the gap between the lens and the housing. Looks good and works great. No more blurry images when filming underwater!
