Track your pet tortoises

These are my tortoises Walnut and Nick.

I was constantly losing them in the garden so I bought them some trackers. The problem was how to fix the trackers to the tortoises. I didn’t want to glue them as I was worried it would damage their shells. I tried making webbing harnesses secured with Velcro but they kept walking off and leaving them behind! I’d given up and thought I’d wasted my money buying the trackers, but then, I discovered sugru! I carefully wrapped the tortoises in cling film after dark when they were still and then modelled the sugru around them. Now I can just pull the harnesses on and off as I like BUT the tortoises cannot!

Thanks to sugru I know I can tuck the boys up safe in their boxes every night and I don’t have to spend an hour each evening searching for them!

...and here's the latest update from Lou

Their harnesses have undergone some basic repairs as they're very active and give the harnesses quite a rough ride. The beauty of sugru though is that it's so easy to patch up and I can do it overnight while they're safe in their beds! Despite Nick and Walnut having a ready supply of plants suitable for tortoises (aka weeds) in their own garden (spoilt I know) they've recently decided that they quite like to eat slugs! I don't think they've read the books that say tortoises are vegetarian! I'm not sure whether to be pleased that they're helping the chickens with the slug control or disgusted. Maybe they've spent too much time watching the chickens?

Here's another picture demonstrating how hard it can be to find the boys without their harnesses and trackers.
