Customise a microwave knob for the visually impaired

My father-in-law is registered blind and having failed to get the help needed from the manufacturer for a microwave knob with a pointer on it I decided to make one.

This is my second attempt at a Sugru solution. I'm not very practised – after looking today at your website I’m sure I could find some hints for a smoother finish – however I have achieved what I set out to achieve. My father-in-law can now time his porridge more accurately.

(The top knob on the microwave clicks at each station on the dial and it is easy to tell when you have reached the highest number.)

many elderly people do not have the same sensitivity in their fingers (FIL is over 90) as younger people do so won’t be able to learn to read braille and so he cannot in fact tell how many raised “bumpon” dots {from the RNIB) there are – he will just count the number of raised settings there are for whatever he wants to microwave
