Make a 30mm camera accessory adapter case for your phone

You can go out and buy various weird little ad-on lenses for your smartphone, but why would you? Those cheap "specialised" attachments are nothing more than overpriced smaller versions of gear that has been around for years!

30mm is the ring size of many camcorder lenses. This means that you can screw on all sorts of accessories that use the 30mm ring system. This mod takes a cheap rubber case for a Samsung Galaxy S II (though you can obviously do this for other phones and cases, cheap cases cost you no more than $1-3 on eBay) and attaches a 30mm adapter ring to it.

I cut a circular ring out from around the camera, expanding the cutout that was already there. I used a 30mm adapter ring (you can get these for $1-2 on eBay), fit it into the hole I cut, and applied sugru all around it to "merge" the ring with the case. Now I have a case I can attach to the phone, which gives me a 30mm ring system! You can find all sorts of 30mm gear on eBay and other places, including macro lenses, wide angle lenses, optical zoom extensions, polarising filters, colour filters, and UV filters. Instead of just buying specialised lenses, this allows you to use existing 30mm gear!
