How to fix your bra with a metal rib
My favourite bra had a rib that got out of its casing. I had tried to sew it back in, but the rib had a raw edge. After a few hours the rib came out to cut my flesh... extremely uncomfortable!
Now with Sugru this kind of disagreement will not happen again. Follow the guide!
Kit
- 1 single-use foil pack of Sugru
- Scissors
- Thread
- Needle
Step 1
Remove the damaged rib. See the raw edges on the rib, this is what causes it to come out of its casing.
Step 2
Take a little bit of Sugru and coat the two ends of the rib.
This is tricky as you want to have a very thin layer overall but still a good amount on the raw edges. If you make it too thick you will not be able to put the rib back in. If you make it too thin the raw edges will cut though the Sugru once you wear the bra, and you will have to start all over again.
Step 3
Let it cure overnight.
Step 4
Prepare the opening to put the rib back in. This is also tricky. With the small scissor cut the stitches that hold the casing together. You might then have to cut a bit of the casing to reveal the most inner layers.
Step 5
Put the rib back in and sew. Make sure that the rib fits in the most inner layer, you should not feel the rib moving at all once in place. You can then sew it all back together.
Step 6
Ta-daa, you are all set!
I have done this fix on this same bra once already. The repair lasted more than a year. But eventually the rib will cut through the Sugru coating. Now that I have the skill it is pretty easy to fix it again :-)
