How to make a steel ruler anti-slip

Put Sugru on the back of a steel ruler to make it more difficult for it to slip when you are cutting.

Kit

  • 1 single-use foil pack of Sugru
  • 1 steel ruler
  • Cling film

Step 1

Ten balls of Sugru

Open a pack and mould Sugru into ten equally sized balls.

Step 2

Balls of Sugru being applied to back of ruler

Place each Sugru ball on the ruler.

Step 3

Ruker with balls of Sugru equidistant from each other

You can use the markings on the ruler to make sure the balls are evenly spread. In this case, I put Sugru on the inches side because I measure in centimetres.

Step 4

Balls of Sugru being pressed into ruler with thumb

Push each Sugru ball into the ruler.

Step 5

Ruler being pressed onto cling film

Turn over the ruler and push it against a flat surface to make the Sugru layer even. Use cling film to avoid sticking and protect the surface.

Step 6

Pads of Sugru along the back of the ruler

Wait 24 hours for Sugru to cure...

Step 7

Stanley knife used to cut paper, with the ruler used as a guide

... and start cutting. Remember to be careful when using a knife.
