How to make a Sugru wedding ring (aka fix your marriage)
After 3 failed attempts at finding a ring (tungsten, wood, etc.) that didn't cause an allergic reaction on my skin, Sugru saved the day!
Kit
- Wax paper
- X-acto knife
- Paper (cut to ring size)
- Soapy water
- 5g pack of Sugru
Step 1
Use a small piece of paper to measure around your finger the size you want your ring to be (thickness and length). Lay down a piece of wax paper on a hard surface. Cut the pack of Sugru open and soften between fingers.
Step 2
Use your paper guide to estimate the length necessary to create your ring. Begin smoothing the surface of Sugru using a small amount of soapy water and your finger. The goal is to get it as flat and uniform as possible.
Step 3
Using your paper guide, cut the same shape out of the Sugru with the X-acto knife. Remove the surrounding Sugru carefully.
Step 4
As best as you can, squeeze both ends together and mold with your fingers. Avoid touching the outer facing part of the ring to maintain a smoother look.
Step 5
Don't worry about getting the joint perfectly smooth. It's not visible when wearing the ring. Let sit upright on the wax paper for 30 minutes to harden. Wait 24 hours before wearing as the Sugru cures during that time.
