How to repair your dishwasher rack with Sugru

With whitegoods, sometimes it seems like it’s only a matter of time. After years of service, the plastic coating on dishwasher racks are especially prone to wear and the metal frame rusts - leaving it vulnerable to snappage. Replacing these parts can be expensive, and often the components are no longer available which means that you need to buy a whole new appliance! Sneaky.

However, those days may be gone. Sugru Mouldable Glue is particularly good for this repair because:

  • It’s dishwasher proof

  • It’s waterproof

  • It’s heat resistant up to 180°C (356°F)

  • It bonds to all the different materials found in a dishwasher.

Kit:

  • A single-use pack of Sugru

  • Your broken dishwasher rack

Step 1: Roll the Sugru

Tear open your pack of Sugru and roll it out into a sausage shape. Then flatten it, so that it can cover the whole way round the broken area. The length of the Sugru should be 10mm longer either side of the break.

Next, wrap it around the broken area.

Step 2: Correct lumps and bumps

Press and squeeze the Sugru to even out all the lumps and bumps. Make sure the Sugru has bonded well either side of the break. Then rub your fingers over the Sugru so that the surface is smooth.

Step 3: Leave it to set

In 12-24 hours the Sugru will have set! Your dishwasher will be  back and ready for action! (But do remember this step - and don’t use the dishwasher whilst the Sugru is setting!).
