How to Lego-ify your lens cap!

When out and about shooting some amazing photographs, it is frustrating to keep scrambling and searching for your camera's lens cap.

With sugru and a couple of pieces of lego, you can keep your lens cap to hand and stop the risk of losing it on location!

Kit

  • 1 minipack of sugru
  • Your camera lens cap
  • Your tripod
  • Scissors
  • Lego bricks - one male and one female

Step 1

Two lego bricks being held

For this handy little modification, you will need 2 pieces of lego - one male and one female piece.

The slimmer the lego brick, the better!

Step 2

Lego brick with moulded Sugru pyramid

Cut open your minipack of sugru and tear off roughly a quarter of the 5g blob.

Knead it in your fingers for about 30 seconds.

Press the small blob of sugru onto the back of the lego brick and the sculpt it to make a tiny pyramid shape. This shape helps the sugru get an even spread when its applied.

Step 3

Lego and Sugru applied to lens cap

Press the lego and sugru down onto your lens cap.

Step 4

Second lego brick with Sugru being held next to lens cap

Do the same again for the female lego brick. Remember to stick the sugru to the correct side!

At this point, you will have used half a minipack of sugru and you have roughly half an hour, once opened, for the sugru to be in its prime - perhaps have another fix lined up or beforehand browse the sugru website for some inspiration.

Step 5

Second lego brick attached to tripod with yellow Sugru

This time press the sugru-lego combo onto a handy place on your tripod.

Leave your lens cap and tripod somewhere safe to allow the sugru to cure overnight.

Step 6

The next morning and voila! You and your camera gear are ready to go!
