How to create homemade jewellery from Sugru Mouldable Glue
DISCOVER HOW TO USE EMBOSSING AND MOULD-MAKING TECHNIQUES.
Step 1: Gather your tools
For this project, you'll need some greaseproof paper or a sheet of plastic, oil or soapy water, chains, a small paintbrush and some Sugru.
Step 2: Form and emboss
Roll your Sugru flat onto the sheet of plastic or greaseproof paper. Wet your chain with soapy water or cooking oil. Press the chain into the Sugru, taking care togo deep enough to get a good resolution of shape without it getting stuck in the Sugru. If you want to integrate a chain as part of the final piece of jewellery, fold one edge over the chain and press it down gently.
Step 3: For mould-making, wait 12-24 hours
Your embossed piece of Sugru can either be a finished piece of jewellery in itself, or in the case of the ring shown here, use as a mould. To use it as a mould, wait 12-24 hours for the Sugru to set. Then open a second single-use pack of Sugru, form it around the ring and smooth it with soapy water. Wet the mould with soapy water too, then roll and press into the fresh Sugru. You'll get a great impression! Now leave the ring to set for 12-24 hours.
Step 4: Once set, cut and trim
In 12-24 hours, Sugru sets into a strong, durable silicone rubber. It's easy to trim and shape with a sharp knife at that point, and so if you want to get clean sharp edges, it's best to cut it then.
Step 5: Rock it!
