How to fix broken parts in your fridge
Fridge compartments are a bit of a maze. Who knows what you call the compartment on the door that holds the eggs or the box of plastic at the bottom for the vegetables? So when the little nooks and crannies break - it really is easier to DIY.
With Sugru Mouldable Glue it's really easy (and quick) to fix these little snags instead of buying replacement parts, so you can make your fridge last longer which is great for your pocket and great for the environment.
Sugru is particularly effective for this task because:
It's temperature resistant down to -40°C (-40°F)
it sticks really well to the plastics and glass used in the fridge
it's strong and durable
You will need:
1-2 single-use packs of Sugru (depending on the size of the damage!)
Your broken fridge part
Some toilet roll
Prep time! Make sure the surface is clean and dry - wipe it with that handy roll of tissue paper.
Fix 1: Shelving cracks
For a crack on one of the shelves, place and press a sausage of Sugru onto the edge of the break. Smooth the surface by rolling your finger over the Sugru. Rub some soapy water over it to achieve a smooth finish.
When you have finished, leave the Sugru to set at room temperature for 12-24 hours.
Fix 2: Cracked drawer
For a cracked drawer, roll the Sugru into a sausage twice the length of the crack and spread it over both the front and back of the break. Press it down on all sides and then use soapy water to give it a smooth, shiny finish.
When you have finished, leave the Sugru to set at room temperature for 12-24 hours and your fridge drawer/shelf is good to go!
Fix 3: Missing door part
To replace a missing part in the door, push the Sugru deep into the crack. Take your time to sculpt the Sugru so that it matches up with the part you're replacing. Carefully smooth it with soapy water to give it a nice even finish.
Leave it to set at room temperature for 12-24 hours.
