Sugru ❤️... March 2022

NEWS & STORIES ABOUT REPAIR, WASTING LESS, AND OTHER GOOD STUFF THAT WE'RE LOVING THIS MONTH.

The Minimalists

“Our memories are not in our things; our memories are inside us.” It’s so easy to get caught up in a consumer-driven lifestyle where the accumulation of more and more things seems like a constant must. But are all these things making you happy?

Maybe it’s time to meet The Minimalists? Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus show you how to live a more meaningful life with less things through their popular podcast. They interview all kinds of interesting people and discuss everything from pet ownership, to finances and shopping addiction. If you become a fan, you can sign up to their Patreon for even more insight!

Glass Half Full

Feeling frustrated at the lack of glass recycling in their hometown of Louisiana in New Orleans, two university students started their own operation in a back garden. Their ultimate goal was to produce ethical and sustainable sand that will provide an alternative to harmful sand extraction techniques that disrupt local ecosystems and contribute to the coastal erosion crisis.

Today they run a huge recycling plant called Glass Half Full, with a team of staff and volunteers, including pick-ups and drop offs of neighbourhood glass. Since starting in 2020 they have also founded GlassRoots, a social enterprise to expand the accessibility of recycling through education, outreach, and the creative reuse of traditional waste.

Who Gives a Fix? Earth Hour Special

For Earth Hour this year we wanted to spend it repairing by candlelight with friends. So we gathered together for our first ever Who Gives a Fix? special, with three amazing guests!

Jane was joined by Addie Fisher (@oldworldnew) – a sustainable living enthusiast, thrifter and blogger; Harrison Gardner – co-founder of non-profit initiative @common_k_ who run Build School courses; and Rebecca Rockefeller (@buynothingproject) – co-author of The Buy Nothing, Get Everything Plan and co-founder of The Buy Nothing Project, the world’s gift economy platform.

We loved every second of it! If you missed it, you can still watch it here.

#BreaktheBias with DIY supremo Jo Behari

We’ve had a busy month over on our Instagram Live series Who Gives a Fix?, and Jane kicked it off – the night before International Women’s Day, catching up with our pal Jo Behari @diyjobehari – TV presenter, author, columnist and entrepreneur. They chatted about all things DIY, from Jo’s current house overhaul (not her first renovation rodeo), DIY workshops, handy tools, empowering women (with drill skills and more) and how she rocks it on live TV!

Catch it here.

Meet upcycling pioneer Max McMurdo

Another fantastic chat on the Who Gives a Fix? series this month was with Max McMurdo @maxreestore. Max lives in a converted 40ft shipping container that he remodelled all on his own.

Energetic and bursting with amazing ideas, Max takes Jane on a whirlwind tour of his home, shares his Dragon’s Den experience, why he loves Sugru, how he first got into upcycling and what’s next on his eco-friendly design journey.

Sugru on The View

The View is one of the most popular morning shows in the US – it’s been on air for 25 years with millions of viewers tuning in every day! One of their segments, called View Your Deal, showcases nifty products with exclusive savings… and we’re so proud that Sugru was recently featured. We want more people to buy Sugru so more fixing can happen!
